The Texas FlyFishers of Houston was founded in 1976 by a group of avid fly fishermen. Their objectives then, as ours are now, were to share their knowledge of fly fishing with one another and others who wanted to learn, to help in conserving our natural resources, to enjoy the camaraderie of fly fishing, and to have a good time doing it.
We have an active club with a full range of activities. There is something for everyone, from beginner to expert, from the very young to those who remember when all fly rods were made of cane, and for all skill levels, from those who haven't yet held a fly rod to those who can cast more fly line than you can buy.Meetings
The core of our programs is the monthly meeting. Each month we meet and have
a guest speaker. In the past our speakers have ranged from fresh water and salt
water guides to fisheries biologists to tackle manufacturers reps to artists and
writers to our own members who've taken exotic trips. Every meeting offers
something new and different. We meet the last Tuesday of each month with the exception of
December. The meetings start at 7 pm at the Bayland Community Center in Bayland Park. We also have a comprehensive educational program, with fly tying classes, casting classes, and our Fly Fishing Academy.
Outings
No fishing club would be complete without fishing, and we do a lot of that. We have trips to fresh and salt water venues nearly monthly, led by club members familiar with the waters. Outings are listed on the Events Calendar or go to the Freshwater Outings Page.
